Ten questions that reveal where your warehouse may have gaps in Wi-Fi coverage, scanner reliability, WMS performance, downtime readiness, and cybersecurity.

Wireless Coverage & Mobility

Wi-Fi coverage has been measured throughout the active warehouse.
Coverage should be validated in aisles, loading areas, staging zones, offices, cold or insulated spaces, and other places where employees use scanners or mobile devices. A signal near an access point does not prove reliable coverage across the operation.
Scanners and mobile devices roam without disconnecting.
Employees should be able to move between aisles and access points without losing sessions, repeating scans, or waiting for devices to reconnect. Recurring problems in the same locations usually indicate design or roaming issues.
Wireless performance is reviewed after layout or inventory changes.
Racking, dense inventory, machinery, new work areas, and building changes can alter wireless behavior. Coverage that worked during installation may no longer match the warehouse as it operates today.

Devices & Inventory Systems

Scanners, label printers, and workstations remain reliable during peak periods.
Busy shifts should not trigger more disconnects, print failures, application delays, or device restarts. Problems that appear under load can indicate wireless congestion, capacity limits, aging hardware, or infrastructure bottlenecks.
Inventory transactions appear in the WMS accurately and without noticeable delay.
Receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and cycle-count activity should update consistently. Delayed or missing transactions create inventory uncertainty, duplicate work, and manual reconciliation.
Warehouse devices follow a documented lifecycle and support plan.
Scanner batteries, firmware, spare devices, printer maintenance, workstation age, and vendor support responsibilities should be planned. Waiting for critical equipment to fail makes every replacement an emergency.

Downtime & Recovery

Critical warehouse systems are monitored and recurring problems are tracked to root causes.
Networks, internet connections, servers, integrations, backups, and business applications should be monitored proactively. Repeated fixes without root-cause analysis allow the same operational disruption to return.
Backups are tested and the warehouse has documented downtime procedures.
Leadership should know which systems must be restored first, how long recovery is expected to take, and how receiving, picking, and shipping will continue while critical technology is unavailable.

Cybersecurity & Planning

Accounts and devices are protected with practical, layered cybersecurity controls.
Multifactor authentication, endpoint protection, email security, least-privilege access, timely patching, and staff awareness reduce the chance that one compromised account or malicious click stops warehouse operations.
Technology ownership and capacity are planned around warehouse growth.
Your team should know who owns each system, which vendor responds when integrations fail, and whether networks, devices, applications, and support can handle projected employees, volume, locations, and automation.
